On Friday 3 May Year 12 A level Art and Design students attended a workshop on oil painting with visiting artist Jane French.
Jane French is a local artist who specialises in oils. She paints many commissions, particularly portraits, but also produces still life and landscape works which she sells in galleries around the country. She is a member of the ‘Leicester Society of Artists’ and the ‘Contemporary British Portrait Painters’ group and has taught workshops at the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester and Wistow Gallery amongst many others.
During the morning session the students produced a tonal study of an eye to familiarise themselves with the medium and technique. In the afternoon they started to work on a study for their portfolio project.
This artwork supports the work students are doing for their A level qualification and may be further developed by those wishing to produce an oil painting as a final piece for their coursework.
