During 19 – 23 October our Gold Award teams from Harington School took part in their assessed expedition in the Cambrian mountains of sunny Wales.  All of our teams settled in for an early start on what was going to be a hard expedition over four days and three nights. The setting of the Cambrian Mountains area provides a fantastic environment for a Gold qualifying expedition, this challenging area certainly showed our students the real remoteness, unfamiliar and unpredictable environment of the wild countryside.

Teams walked distances of around 50-60 miles during the expedition, self-sufficient and carrying out at least 8 hours of planned activity each day.  Standards and expectations are set extremely high at this level and our students definitely met them, showing outstanding resilience, commitment, self-belief, self-confidence, teamwork and leadership throughout.  All teams successfully reached the finish line on the coast of Borth where there were some tired and emotional students.  A fantastic achievement, our students attitude and enthusiasm were a huge credit to the school. Well done!

Students will now look to compete their remaining sections and Gold Awards, which will see them presented with their certificates and badges in London, at either Buckingham Palace or St James’s Palace in the near future.
