Harington School Expansion – Consultation
Harington School opened in 2015 with a clear mission: to provide 150 high‑quality, free sixth‑form places for young people in our local area, offering an academic A‑level curriculum that enables students to progress to leading universities and prestigious apprenticeships.
Over the past decade, Harington has gone from strength to strength. We have been judged Outstanding by Ofsted twice, and each year at least 80% of our students secure their first‑choice university place. Just as importantly, our reputation within the local and regional community has grown considerably; 97% of our parents say they would recommend the school to others.
This success and the increase in the population locally has resulted in significantly increased demand for places which we are unable to meet. In September 2025, we received 360 applications for 150 places, and we are seeing the same level of interest again this year. Our largest and closest feeder school, Catmose College, is also expanding, which will result in an additional 30 students becoming eligible to apply next year. We therefore anticipate even greater pressure on places in the years ahead.
To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of local young people, we are seeking your support for our proposal to increase our admission numbers to 200 students per year. This modest but essential growth will enable more students from the local community to access a high‑quality, free academic sixth‑form education—allowing them to stay local while preparing to go far in their future careers.
As required for a Significant Change application for academies, we are now carrying out a consultation with our community and key local stakeholders. This consultation is the first stage of the formal process. Alongside this proposal, we are also developing plans for a new building, which will be required to support the increased student numbers; we will share these plans with you shortly.
