During the Easter break Year 12 students from Harington School were busy practising for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s qualifying expedition in an extremely wet Wales. Four teams travelled to the Elan Valley area of the Cambrian Mountains in Mid Wales, where they successfully completed the expedition over 4 days and 3 nights. Students typically journeyed for 8 hours each day unaccompanied and self-sufficient. The aim of the Expedition section is to inspire young people to develop initiative and a spirit of adventure and discovery by planning, training for and completing an adventurous independent journey as part of a team. The remote environment and challenging weather definitely tested all the teams, standards and expectations are set extremely high at this level and the students definitely met them, showing outstanding resilience and teamwork. Well done!#haringtonschool #golddofe #dukeofedinburgh ... See MoreSee Less

“I am delighted to announce our new Head Students and Deputy Head Students for the new academic year. We had a large number of applications this year which made our decision even more challenging. All applicants completed a one-minute video, attended an interview, took part in a group discussion and gave a presentation to their peers. Congratulations to Hannah and Harvey who have been appointed as Head Students together with Georgia, Daniel, Ciara and Tim as Deputy Head Students. I am sure they will make an excellent team.”Oliver Teasel, Head of School#HaringtonSchool #HeadStudents #LeadershipTeam ... See MoreSee Less

Our new Greenpower team have been busy doing some testing at Mallory Park ready for this coming season’s races. Marginal gains, internal resistance and a low co-efficient of drag have been featuring in conversations, along with determining which of our three potential drivers has the lowest mass. Plans are also afoot for a second race car. This time the car is being designed & built to the student’s specification. Watch this space to see how the new “scratch-built” car develops.#HaringtonSchool #Greenpower ... See MoreSee Less

This week our A level Art and Design students attended a life drawing workshop with visiting artist Scott Bridgwood. Scott is a full-time professional artist. He graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 1992. After exhibiting in and around London, he emigrated to Rome, Italy where he lived and worked as an Artist for ten years. It was there that he discovered his passion for figurative art.He now lives in Leicester where he still works as an Artist and teaches Life Drawing and Portraiture at Attenborough Arts in Leicester. He is a member of the ‘Leicester Society of Artists’.As this was some of the student’s first-time life drawing Scott guided them through a series of studies using a range of drawing techniques including drawing shadows, negative space and opposing curves. This artwork supports the work students are doing for their A level qualification and will be particularly useful for those students wishing to apply for foundation and degree courses in Art and Design subjects. The workshop was an excellent opportunity for our students to broaden their portfolio and gain knowledge from a professional practitioner. The students were a credit to Harington in the way they conducted themselves and the work they produced.#haringtonschool #art #lifedrawing ... See MoreSee Less
